The theologian Carmen Bernabé has been distinguished with one of the Zirgari Awards Equality 2017 for her career and contribution to the promotion of women's rights. Awarded by the Provincial Council of Bizkaia and BBK, these awards recognise the work of individuals, entities and companies working on gender equality.The Association Clara Campoamor, the Pikara Magazine and the companies of the Grupo Servicios Sociales Integrados and Ingeteam have also been selected in this edition of the awards.
The Zirgari Sariak Awards are inspired on the work carried out in the past by women towing boats on the river with the only help of a rope, tow and their own physical effort.
Carmen Bernabé, who is a professor at the University of Deusto and a pioneer in theological studies with a gender perspective, has received the Honorary Award for Career. The Award for Work Against Gender Violence has been awarded to the Association Campoamor and the Empowerment Award has been awarded to the digital magazine Pikara. The Co-responsibility and Conciliation Award has been awarded es aequo to Grupo Servicios Sociales Integrados and Ingeteam.
The awards ceremony will be at the BBK room on 7 March, the eve of International Women's Day.
