DEUSTO Center for Applied Ethics and OXFAM exchange on SDGs worldwide contribution

In an interview with DEUSTO Center for Applied Ethics (CAE), José María Vera, executive director of Oxfam International, warns that there is a risk that the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) agenda will become only "a national agenda" because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Vera recalls that the 2030 Agenda has "the virtuality of being universal" with "a framework that helps us and requires everyone to move in one direction". He outlines that the 2030 Agenda cannot be a cooperation agenda, nor it can be just a domestic agenda, without a significant contribution to the worldwide goals and in countries of particular fragility.

In this regard, the Head of Oxfam regrets that most governments do not focus on what is happening outside their borders, as it is the case of Spain, who "is promoting positive initiatives, with an advanced discourse" on SDGs, but lacking of a consequent funding support.
