On September 11, 2014, the General Director for the Promotion of Personal Autonomy and Attention to Dependency of the Government of Biscay, Mr. Sergio Murillo, presented the Strategy for Age Friendly Environments of Biscay. The Strategy was presented to the ad hoc Commission established by the Council of Seniors. The first phase of the Commision’s work was chaired by both the University of Deusto and the President of the Council, under whose term recommendations were issued regarding the formulation and implementation of the Strategy. Amongst other instruments, this entails drafting a Manual that might assist in the transformation of territories and localities within Biscay (e.g. municipalities, communities) into friendly environments for all ages.
The Manual, which draws from WHO Guidelines and from local bottom-up experiences, is currently being developed by the University of Deusto. The researcher in charge of the Manual, Dr. Pedro Fernández de Larrinoa, presented an overview to the Commission for feedback and insights on September 24, 2014.The manual will be completed by December 2014, and will contribute towards the instrumentation of the Age Friendly Environments Strategy in Biscay.
