In spite of the last decades advances, there are still important labor and professional niches where female participation is proportionally scarce in Spain. This is the particular case of some branches of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. In order to help improving this situation, CaixaBank and Microsoft Iberica have created the WONNOW Awards. The call for applications for this first edition of the Awards is now open. Both companies hope that the initiative helps advancing in gender equality in Spain.

WONNOW are national awards to university students of careers with less female presence in the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The award aims to promote, enhance and stimulate the excellence, both academic and personal, of female university students in the aforementioned areas, giving social visibility to the effort, tenacity and female capacity in these fields.

Another objective pursued by these awards is to contribute to the promotion of scientific and technological vocations in girls and teenagers. This will help not only to foster gender equality, but also to solve the general shortage of scientific and technological vocations. This is starting to become a serious problem in Spain and Europe and can be partly remedied if female participation in these studies and professions is increased.

The call for applications is open until 30 of June.

More information on the applications can be found here.
