      New business models

Theoretical and practical training that reflects the current situation in working with people with disabilities.

The growing involvement of the public authorities in improving the quality of life of people with disabilities (remember the Law for the Promotion of Personal Autonomy or the extraordinary growth of services in recent decades, both in our Community and in the rest of Spain), indicates that there will be:

      • Training needs arising from the generational turnover of professionals.
      • Improving the staffing of agencies and institutions.
      • Acquisition of new professional profiles resulting from the evolution of services.

Based on these reflections, there is a clear need for an officialpostgraduate training programme that specifically contributes to training professionals. The aim is to provide a benchmark and a specific training proposal for the sector.

      New business models

This development of services has been accompanied at the international level by progress in the understanding of disability and in the development of new intervention models that require a greater and continuous qualification of its professionals for the performance of multiple functions:

      • Diagnosis of each personal situation.
      • Strategic planning processes.
      • Design of quality standards in services and programmes for the care of these people and their families.
      • Analysis and development of support services to promote quality of life.

At present, there are no benchmark programmes in the Basque University System to train professionals for the above purposes. Therefore, the only degrees similar to the Master's in Social Inclusion and Disability at the University of Deusto can be found in State Universities.
