      Envejecimiento de la población

      Es un fenómeno observable a escala mundial y según indican los diferentes organismos internacionales constituye además una tendencia que se acentuará en las próximas décadas afectando especialmente a los países desarrollados. Se ha estimado que en el año 2050 alrededor de un 37% de la población en nuestro entorno tendrá 64 o más años de edad (INE, 2012).

      Nuevos modelos de atención

      La atención estrictamente asistencialista, que convierte a la persona en mera “receptora” de programas y servicios resulta insuficientes. Se hace especialmente necesario adoptar nuevos modelos de trabajo con las personas mayores que concedan a éstas un papel protagonista en la gestión de su propia vida, que contribuyan a la mejora de su salud y calidad de vida y que promuevan activamente la participación y el bienestar.

      Envejecer activamente

      Precisamente, durante el Año Europeo del Envejecimiento Activo y la Solidaridad Intergeneracional (2012) se ha puesto de relieve que envejecer activamente es envejecer con salud. Y todo ello, a ser posible en el marco de una sociedad “para todas las edades” en la que las oportunidades para el desarrollo personal, el aprendizaje a lo largo de la vida y el encuentro significativo con otras personas -sin importar la edad- lleguen a ser algo cotidiano.

      Conocimiento riguroso

      Por estas razón es necesario contar con profesionales bien cualificados, con un conocimiento riguroso sobre los cambios asociados al proceso de envejecer y las posibles estrategias de intervención en cada caso; con habilidades para la comunicación y el encuentro humano, con sensibilidad para valorar la gran diversidad existente entre las personas mayores y apertura para trabajar no sólo “para” las personas mayores sino –fundamentalmente- “con” ellas, con una actitud positiva y una confianza ilimitada en sus posibilidades.

      in Psychology, Social Education, Medicine, Physiotherapy, Law, Social Work, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Pedagogy, Sociology, Anthropology or Economic and Business Sciences.

      You are committed to the promotion of justice and the welfare of the general population and disadvantaged groups.

      You have interpersonal skills, teamwork capacity and personal maturity.

      You have specific competences related to an area of knowledge, discipline or profession linked to health or social sciences.

      • Acquire skills and knowledge that promote an interdisciplinary approach to gerontological care. 
      • Develop skills in the assessment and diagnosis of structures and functions related to healthy and pathological ageing, from an individual, group and social perspective.
      • Learn to design and apply intervention procedures, techniques and strategies as well as programmes and services designed for elderly people and their formal and informal carers.
      • Acquire professional skills and methodological and scientific knowledge to evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of gerontological interventions and programmes .
      • Develop the ethical, deontological, relational and communicative skills necessary for quality intervention with the elderly.
