The topic of my PhD research focuses on the promotion of ethical culture in transnational companies while incorporating forward-looking perspectives to elicit ethical consciousness. These forward-looking perspectives or scenarios are constructed jointly by a diverse group of stakeholders based on their collective knowledge and observation of past and present realities. Within the overall aim of having a more ethical culture in organizations, it is necessary to understand the expectations of society and business. For this, we ask how organizations, with a global reach that spans diverse national and regional cultures, can perceive the resilience and capacity for renewal of their ethical cultures, through the lens of future scenarios. This project proposes that forward-looking perspectives may enable organizational ethical culture to better confront uncertainty and turbulence and adapt in future environments. This can lead to improved corporate governance and policies that can have a significant impact on the well-being of society. The scenario building process contributes to the progression toward a common ground among diverse groups of external and internal stakeholders during the process of co-creating scenarios. Furthermore, stakeholders help identify driving forces, ethical risks, individuals, groups and entities that could intervene in changes in organizational culture. There is a need to deeply consider who and what will reshape the future, the degrees of influence wielded by these three: civil society, business and government, and the interactions and relationships among them and with other stakeholders. I would hope that this project would serve as a lesson and paradigm to be applied in similar contexts for other organizations and that my work could contribute to the research and to the further development of the practice and study of the promotion of ethical culture.
