One of the most beautiful in Europe
San Sebastian is considered to be one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. Located in a natural amphitheater facing the sea and surrounded by mountains, it is highly known for the beauty of La Concha Bay, the “pearl” of the Spanish northern-east coast.
Tourist destination par excellence
Once a Royal family´s summer residence, nowadays it’s Northern Spain´s tourist destination par excellence and a city of culture, wellness and tolerance. San Sebastian is also the administrative capital of Gipuzkoa, a province with a highly developed industrial sector and commits itself to becoming a model of cutting-edge modernity involving new technologies, research and investigation.
The city enjoys a privileged location, only 20 kilometers from France, and it is part of the cross-border region that gathers cities such as Biarritz, Saint Jean de Luz and Bayonne. It is also well connected by public transport with major cities such as Madrid, Barcelona, Bilbao or Pamplona.
San Sebastian is a medium-sized city, perfect for getting around on foot or ride a bike along the extensive net of cycling lanes. There are also many green areas both in the city center as well as in the outskirts, which enhance the active and healthy lifestyle of the locals, strongly linked to both outdoor and indoor sports.

Surfers and sunbathers will especially enjoy it, not only because of the 3 beaches located right in the middle of the city, but also because of the beaches in the villages nearby such as Hondarribia, Getaria or Zarautz. The city is also the setting for local, national and international surf championships.
A top quality cultural program
The city boasts a top quality performing arts and cultural program which includes the International Film Festival, the Jazz Festival, the Kutxa Kultur Festival, and the Horror and Fantasy Film Festival. Due to all that intense cultural activity the city has gained the well-deserved designation of being the European Capital of Culture 2016.
Birthplace of the new "Basque cuisine"
Birthplace of the “new Basque cuisine” movement, San Sebastian is recognized worldwide for its exquisite gastronomy. Local people as well as visitors can either enjoy a variety of “pintxos” in the Old Town or eat at one of the very prestigious restaurants awarded with Michelin stars.
Shops, boutiques, bares y pubs
It’s a lively city that hosts a good combination of local and international shops and boutiques, the perfect scenario for shopping-lovers. At night, San Sebastian transforms to offer a wide variety of bars and pubs with all sorts of different atmospheres to please all tastes.
Modern and traditional identity
The city´s most deeply-rooted traditions are honored every year with festivals. Its traditional but, at the same time, modern identity gives the visitors the opportunity of experiencing the coexistence of two rich cultures and languages, Spanish and Basque; a cultural and anthropological treasure of unknown origin maintained over the centuries.
A city of contrasts
Along with magnificent iconic buildings such as The Cathedral of El Buen Pastor, The Basílica of Santa Maria, The Victoria Eugenia Theatre or the City Hall, modern infrastructures have been added such as the Kursaal Convention Center, the Sports Complex of Anoeta or the innovative Miramon Technology Park, which makes San Sebastian a city of contrasts.
