Schuman 2.0: the University of Deusto coordinates a co-creation process for a new Schuman Declaration

The project Schuman 2.0 is an initiative of the Union of European Federalists (UEF), supported by the Europe for Citizens Programme of the European Union, to celebrate the 70 years of the Schuman Declaration issued on 9 May 1950. The Schuman Declaration was crucial for setting the political course of the European Union creation.

This project is aimed at contributing to citizens' understanding of the EU, its history and diversity, and in particular, to raise awareness of the historical significance of the Schuman declaration and take it as opportunity to reflect on the future of the European project.

As part of this initiative six European grass-roots events are taking place in Lille (France), Tartu (Estonia), Trieste (Italy), Graz (Austria) and Hamburg (Germany), Bilbao (Spain). A final Citizens Summit will be held on 8 May 2020 in Brussels where the declarations from each grassroots event will be presented and the most successful “Schuman 2.0 Declaration” will be awarded.

On the 6 March the University of Deusto will engage citizens from all social and economic backgrounds in a co-creation process to share their perception on the European project, confront it with the other participants’ and reflect on the best way to renew the EU’s mission. During the event, participants will reflect on the original Schuman Declaration and propose their “new Schuman Declaration” to address current EU challenges.

Students from DEUSTO International Relations Degree and the International Master Programme Euroculture, former and current members of the Eurochild Children Council, together with DEUSTO researchers from different disciplines are coordinating this process ensuring a bottom-up and inclusive participation at the event.
