On March 15, 16 and 17 the University of Deusto hosted the VIII Congress of the Spanish Network of Social Policies (REPS) jointly organized by the Universities of the Basque Country with the collaboration of Sareen Sarea and the Documentation and Studies Centre SIIS with the aim of deepening on the social policies during and after the COVID crises and the new models of care.
Other topics addressed by the participants were the current challenges and needs for inclusion and income guarantee policies during the COVID, the current Welfare State, the perspective of homelessness, the impact of employment policies for the most vulnerable groups or the food problem generated in Spain in the context of COVID19.
The Congress brought together academic professionals, social workers, social consultants, political leaders and institutional social policy makers, among others.
The Congress started on March 15 with the inauguration of REPS 2021 in the Paraninfo of the University of Deusto. This event was attended by the Basque Councillor for Employment and Social Policies, Beatriz Artolazabal; the Member of Provincial Parliament for Employment, Social Inclusion and Equality, Teresa Laespada; the mayor of the Bilbao City Council, Juan María Aburto; the Rector of the University of Deusto, José María Guibert; the Rector of the University of the Basque Country, Eva Ferreira; Margarita León, co-president of the Spanish Network of Social Policies (REPS); and the president of Begirune Fundazioa, Xabier Aierdi.
