International Day of Women and Girls in Science: Deusto nurtures technology competences among women with initiatives recognised at international level

The United Nations has proclaimed 11 February the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, to raise awareness and promote the participation of women and girls in science.

According to a study conducted in 14 countries, the probability of girls completing a bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral degree in science-related matters is 18%, 8% and 2%, respectively, whilst boys’ probability is 37%, 18% and 6%.

Aware of the need to promote technology competences among women, the University of Deusto has launched several initiatives in the last years, such as the Ada Byron Award for women in technology, which is on its fourth edition, the mentoring project INSPIRA STEAM, an exhibition on women technologist and the online space MujerTeKSpace (blog and Twitter account). The first two projects have been identified in the list of the Casio website under the title 10 Spanish reference cases supporting women´s scientific work.
