Deusto researchers interviewed by the Urbanbat Festival 2018 on Instant Cities

The Cultural Festival on urbanism and social innovation Urban Bat will take place in Bilbao from 21 to 25 November 2018. This festival explores the relationship between city, citizenship, art, culture, society and territory to contribute to the collaborative transformation of cities. Different people from different backgrounds and different degrees of specialisation participate to reflect and propose solutions around a contemporary urban challenge.

This edition of the festival addresses the topic of “Instant Cities”. It will focus on the role of technologies to help cities welcome in a short period of time a large number of people coming to celebrate leisure and culture events. These technologies can help changing the uses of equipment, the massive occupation of public spaces, the building of ephemeral architectures for the reception of visitors and even the temporarily adaptation of urban management regulations.

Micro-interviews with different experts on the effects produced by large cultural events in urban development have been carried out. Among them, three researchers of the University of Deusto have participated in this initiative: Fernando Bayón, from the Leisure Studies Institute, Roberto San Salvador del Valle and Braulio Gómez, both from the Cities Lab Katedra.
