From 28 to 30 October, the University of Deusto will celebrate the eighth edition of ForoTech, the Engineering and Technology week, in which the University, business and students come together to bring engineering and technology closer to citizens and with the objective of fostering vocations towards research and technological development, especially among women.
ForoTech will host the delivery of the Spanish edition of the Ada Byron International Award, which aims to give visibility to the work of women in the scientific and technology fields, besides promoting female vocations in R&D and highlight the importance of technology for economic growth.
One of the novelties of ForoTech 2020 is LabsLand, a startup that provides access to online real educational laboratories for schools and universities. With its technology, it is possible for schools and universities throughout the world to remotely access their equipment. This project is the result of an initiative of a former student of the University of Deusto and has laboratories in 14 countries of all continents. Within the framework of Forotech 2020, the LabsLand competition will allow schools (both from Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa, as well as from different Latin American countries) to sign up so that students can learn basic concepts of programming and robotics and test their codes on real robots controlled from home.
During the three days of the forum, there will be an exhibition and virtual workshops at the cloister of the University Auditorium. Along with both activities, we can count, also online, with a Uniraid Solidarity Rally by Alumni Engineering.
In November, the Faculty of Engineering will also organise a week of meetings with various NGOs, with the aim of matching students’ end of degree projects with the various projects presented by these organisations.
ForoTech 2020 is sponsored by Microsoft, Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy, Ejie, Emakunde, the Provincial Council of Bizkaia, Bilbao City Council, Bilbaotik, Ihobe, Vidrala, NTS, Spri Group, Innolab, DanobatGroup, Basque Government, Bilbao Ekintza, Fomento San Sebastián and Euskaltel Fundazioa; and it counts with the collaboration of DeustoTech, Deusto FabLab, Deusto EarningLab, Innobasque, Basque Health Cluster, the Musical Youth of Bilbao, Alzola BasqueWater and Labs Land.
