On the World Refugee Day, celebrated on 20 June, the University of Deusto signed a €4 million partnership with the Jesuit Refugees Service (JRC), the ALBOAN Foundation and the Congregación de HH. Carmelitas de la Caridad Vedruna for empowering refugee and displaced women in Africa.
The International Cooperation Programme named “Fondo Mieza” will be implemented in 5 African regions: West Africa, East Africa, Great Lakes, Southern Africa and Tangier (southern border).
Following a mapping exercise that is expected to be concluded by December 2017, an International Seminar will be held in the 1st quarter of 2018, where the main results and challenges of the different contexts will be presented. Building upon these outcomes, Actions Plans will be implemented throughout the period from 2018 to 2020 to answer basic needs, protect and improve life conditions and the strategic interests of women and girls that are victims of violence, supporting them to become socially, economically and culturally empowered.
