DEUSTO Researcher, Ainhoa Alonso, calls for girls’ participation in STEM

The director of DeustoTech Energy and Environment, Ainhoa Alonso, spoke to students, parents and educators at the last Women in Progress workshop, organized by the regional newspaper El Correo.

The event took place on 26 March 2019 at the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao and brought together eight women to talk about their journeys as well-succeeded leaders in STEM careers. The workshop aimed at inspiring girls and boys to engage in STEM by showcasing the different career options in the area.

In her presentation, Ainhoa reminded about the important role that artificial intelligence plays in everyday life and pointed out to the negative consequences of the underrepresentation of women in technology-related careers. She recalled that, in two years time, half of the employment positions will be digital. Therefore, she claimed that technology is the future and that such future needs the participation of girls.
