Underground4Value, a new European COST Action promoting Underground Built Heritage as a valuable resource

The Polythechnic of Marche, in Ancona, has hosted the first meeting of the COST Action Underground Built Heritage as catalyser for Community Valorisation (Undeground4Value) from 6 to 7 June 2019.

The project aims at establishing a network, with knowledge exchange and dissemination, and training, for promoting Underground Built Heritage (UBH) as a valuable resource to celebrate and preserve and, when sustainable, to re-use and valorise, realising its full potential to support local communities’ development.

The experts involved in the project will share their research experience and best-practices, by reporting on governance mechanisms, planning framework, stakeholders’ involvement management, financing mechanisms, technical needs, and their direct impacts on the UBH preservation, environment, society and economy, as well as potential negative externalities.

Collected information will be the basis for developing new research and training, open and accessible to all parties interested in the underground regeneration, and it will provide knowledge on main technical and organisational barriers to the underground regeneration and correlated solutions.

The action is carried out by a network of experts from more than 20 countries organised in five different working groups. Alfonso Bahillo, Director of Deusto Institute of Technology Deustotech and postdoctoral researcher at the Mobility Research Group, has been elected as the leader of the Working Group 2- UBH conservation and monitoring.
