The Horizon 2020 project LOGISTAR, coordinated by DEUSTO, develops the first prototypes to improve the efficiency of logistics transport

The Horizon 2020 project LOGISTAR (Enhanced data management techniques for real time logistics planning and scheduling), coordinated by a multidisciplinary research team at the University of Deusto, has successfully developed the first prototypes of automatic prediction, optimisation and negotiation systems for the future deployment of tools to improve the efficiency of logistics transport.

After more than two years of research, the team has identified, integrated and developed the different data sources that will be processed in the project as well as the module for the prediction of times and events in the supply chain, the global optimisation module for resource planning and the automatic negotiation and re-optimization module based on the real time identification of events and incidents.

The LOGISTAR system will be validated in a real environment in 3 pilots located in the United Kingdom, Italy and Spain (led by Nestlé and Pladis, Zailog and CHEP, respectively). The research teams are currently working on the integration of the different subsystems in a first version of the complete system. This phase will end in November 2020.

The LOGISTAR project, funded by the European Commission with € 4.9 M, brings together 16 partners from 6 different countries and it is aimed at allowing effective planning and optimising of transport operations in the supply chain by taking advantage of horizontal collaboration relying on the increasingly real-time data gathered from the interconnected environment. To achieve this, a real-time decision-making tool and a real-time visualization tool of freight transport will be developed, with the purpose of delivering information and services to the various agents involved in the logistic supply chain, i.e. freight transport operators, their clients, industries and other stakeholders such as warehouse or infrastructure managers.
