Who we are and what we do

University Social Responsibility (USR) is one of the projects envisaged in the 2018 DEUSTO Plan: Deusto: Service and Commitment. The University of Deusto intends to further serve society through this plan, working more closely with different actors, promoting a critical view of reality, partaking in social processes and changing organisational structures.

As community work envisaged in the Society of Jesus’s intellectual apostolate, the University of Deusto is constantly renewing and defining its mission to serve society. Aware of today’s social problems and its capacity to transform society, the UD aims to promote responsible engaged citizenship.

“Educating citizens committed to justice implies helping them to realise that higher education is not only career enhancement, but involves assuming socia responsibility through their work and lives. New citizenship duties come with one’s university diploma.”
The Society’s Secretary for Social Justice and Ecology, 2014.
