Under the title African researchers that transform lives through science, this conference brought together three researchers of the programme of the Women for Africa Foundation "Ellas Investigan."
The scientists were Carmen Pheiffer (a South African doctor of medical biochemistry, currently at the Vall d'Hebron Institute); Agnes Nakakawa (Ugandan, doctor of computer science, in Kronigkune) and Dalia Medhat (Egyptian, doctor in biochemistry, in Biocruces Bizkaia). They also shared the panel with Dr. María Luz Guenaga (Head of the Inspira Steam programme at the University of Deusto).
The debate, moderated by the journalist Begoña Beristain, was opened by the intervention of the institutional representatives: José María Guibert (Rector of the University of Deusto), Teresa Laespada (Deputy for Employment, Social Inclusion and Equality of the Provincial Council of Bizkaia) and María Teresa Fernández de la Vega (President of the Women for Africa Foundation).
The Provincial Council of Bizkaia, through its Bizkaia koopera programme, is a member of the Women for Africa Foundation in Ellas Investigan, and funds the stays of three African researchers at DeustoTech, Kronigkune and Biocruces research centers.
