Social Education seeks to improve society from an educational perspective. To this end, social educators perform various tasks:
- Build help and support relationships with people.
- Facilitate people's evolution to cause a change in them.
- Promote participation and development processes in communities.
- Design and implement socio-educational intervention projects.
- Coordinate socio-educational services and centres, associations, etc.
Therefore, this programme will equip you to work in education with people of all ages and social environments, fostering their personal and community development, independence, integration, better quality of life and social justice.
Student profile
If you feel the call to work in education and are passionate about working with and for people; if you care about social issues and believe we can build a better world, this degree programme may be just the one for you.
Admission requirements
To make a decision on candidates’ admission, the Admission Committee will take into account the following criteria:
- Full academic transcript
- Supporting documents
- The entry test results, only for students on Official Double Degree Programmes
The averages of your marks for the courses in the 4th yr. ESO and 1st yr. Baccalaureate will be considered, of which two average marks will be obtained, one for each academic year. The average mark of this will be used to obtain your arithmetic mean.
Although the academic transcript is important for the selection process, all the candidates sitting the entry tests can also be admitted.
If needed, the Admission Committee will reserve the right to call candidates for a personal interview or require additional supporting documents.
Languages
You can study the entire degree in Spanish but, if you prefer, you can also do some subjects in Basque.
- If you choose the Basque option, you can study up to 60% of subjects in Basque. You will obtain the C1* language profile (*Decree 47/2012).
You can also study some subjects in English.
Personal tutors
At Deusto you will have individual support throughout your degree thanks to the Tutorial Plan, which will help you with anything you need each academic year. For example, in first year there is a specific action plan to help you adapt to the university. However, in fourth year, tutorial sessions will focus on facilitating your integration into the job market.
You will have a personal tutor through your university career. Your tutor is the person to turn to when you have any type of problem or question (about your studies, personal matters that affect your academic performance, new ideas for improvement, etc.).
A practical dynamic methodology
One of the aims of the University is to ensure that students learn by doing. Therefore, at Deusto you will study following its own learning model where you will play the leading role.
1. Experiential context | We know we learn from experience and therefore, at Deusto we draw on students’ previous knowledge. |
---|---|
2. Reflective Observation | Once this previous basis has been laid out, it is essential to observe it and question it. |
3. Conceptualisation | We compare our previous knowledge with the available literature on the subject. |
4. Active learning | Learning requires not only understanding theory but also putting it into practice. This is attained through activities, exercises, internships, projects and/or research which affords each student the opportunity to use different abilities. |
5. Assessment | Finally, assessment reflects on the acquired learning and evaluates the work done. |
