From basic knowledge to real work situations
1st and 2nd years: Students concentrate on learning the basics of the Basque language and culture and begin their study of Spanish and English.
3rd year: Students combine subjects from the field of linguistics and Basque literature with professional skills such as translating, drafting and proofreading texts. Students also have the opportunity to study in a foreign or Spanish university for one semester.
4th year: Internships in companies or institutions to apply the knowledge acquired in the degree programme. In 4th year, the emphasis is on the Undergraduate Final Year Project.
The following fields of Basque language and culture are explored:
- Basque linguistics: the focus is on detailed use of linguistic analysis tools, following grammar theories and methodologies as well as geographic and social variations
- Language planning: in-depth study of the sociolinguistic situation and intervention in the context of teaching and literacy normalisation
- Text production: development of oral comprehension and interaction, written expression and understanding in the Basque language and the techniques required to translate texts
- Literature and culture focus on analysis and transfer of literature and culture in the Basque language both in a global context as well as in Basque literary expression
Subjects taught in three languages
The 240 ECTS credits are distributed between core subjects, compulsory subjects, electives, internships and the Undergraduate Final Year Project.
Students may combine courses in Spanish, English and Basque.
