Jon Ortiz de Urbina holds an English Philology degree from the University of Deusto, as well as an M.A. in Spanish Linguistics from UC Boulder and a Ph.D. in Linguistics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.At present, he is a Professor at the University of Deusto, where he teaches in the Bilbao campus. His teaching concentrates in the degrees of Modern Languages and Modern Languages and Management. He also teaches in the Erasmus Mundus Multiele master program. In the first two, B.A. level degrees, he is in charge of the subject English Grammar, Varieties of English and Varieties of Spanish, while teaches Pedagogical Grammar of Spanish in the Multiele Masters program.His research deals with linguistics, especially syntax and linguistic typology, with a special interest in Basque. He is currently working in linguistic microvariation and in Basque dialectal grammar. Up to 2012, he has been a member of the HiTT consolidated research group, formed by researchers from the UPV-EHU, Deusto, CNRS, Univ. of Nantes, Univ. of Leyden and Univ. of Extremadura. From 2013, he has joined the Deusto LinguaMedia research team.
