ABB and the Club of Excellence in Sustainability have given in Madrid the I ABB Awards to the best digitalisation practice that recognises the work of both public and private entities in the development and application of digital technologies. The Egibide director of Vocational Training, Xabier López de Santiago, and the Vice-rector for Entrepreneurship and Continuing Education of the University of Deusto, Víctor Urcelay, collected the award from Ángeles Heras, Secretary of State for Universities, Research, Development and Innovation of the Government of Spain, in the category of "Best practice on the development of digital talent by the Dual Degree in Digital Industry".
The Dual Degree is carried out at the Egibide Deusto Arriaga headquarters in Vitoria-Gasteiz (Alava) and aims to train people with solid knowledge in the latest industry 4.0 technologies and their strategic application in industrial environments.
The degree was launched on 5 September 2018 with 44 students and is being developed at the same time with the recently inaugurated and pioneering Smart Factory 4.0, located in the same headquarters. It is an initiative born from the collaboration between Vocational Training, University, Institutions and Companies. This recognition would not have been possible without the active support of the Provincial Council of Alava, the Fundación Vital and the Basque Government.
