On 28 February 2019, the University of Deusto celebrated the award ceremony of the XIV UD-Banco Santander Research Award. The first prize went to the EU Horizon 2020 funded project TIMON: roadmap towards a flexible, efficient, sustainable and safe mobility. The second prize was awarded “ex aequo” to the projects: IPJ - The influence of gambling advertising on the behavior of teenagers in sports betting: a guide for regulators, operators, institutions and REHACOP - Brain structural & functional changes associated to cognitive rehabilitation in neurodegenerative diseases.
This award counts with the support of the Santander Bank, who has been working in collaboration with the University of Deusto since 2004 to promote several academic initiatives, such as international mobility scholarships, support to research and university entrepreneurship, among others.
The Rector of the University of Deusto stated that “interdisciplinarity, collaboration with external stakeholders, the contribution of research to innovation, to social development or to the improvement of the quality of life plays a fundamental role in this award. That is the reason why, that in the last editions of the UD-Banco Santander Research Award, the social impact of research is recognised alongside the project’s scientific quality”. And the Director of Santander in the Basque Country, Patricia Arias, stated that these awards "are a recognition to the talent and the academic merit and allow us to express our support to research, knowledge transfer and innovation, as well as our commitment to higher education; especially today, with the University of Deusto, a university that is a benchmark for excellence and leadership in teaching, innovation and internationalization, in commitment to society”.
