Deusto celebrates the conferment of the specialisation diplomas in Gerontology

Mariano Sánchez holds a Diploma in Gerontology from the Institut Universitaire du Troisime ge de Montreal (Canada), and he is an expert in intergenerational programmes, University of Pittsburg (USA). He is currently working as a lecturer at the Sociology Department, University of Granada. In the field of Sociology, he has mainly worked in issues related to the media, education and aging, and professions. Since 1997, his research work has been mainly focused on educational programmes for older people. In this regard, he has published several programmes; among them, special mention should be made of La gérontagogie: une nouvelle realité ; he has also coordinated the GERON (1999-2002) international project, aimed at training teachers working with older people.

At present, lecturer Sánchez Martínez is promoting the strengthening of a network of agents, who are currently developing intergenerational programmes in Spain. During his lecture at the University of Deusto, he emphasised the importance of intergenerational programmes and the need to promote them.
