More than 100 technology professionals discuss the ethical challenges posed by new technologies at the Conference CRUE-TIC

On 23-24 May 2019, the University of Deusto hosted the 39th edition of the Conference CRUE-TIC under the theme “IT professionals in the face of the ethical challenges posed by new technologies”. The event gathered more than 100 technology professionals and included presentations of artificial intelligence and digital and ethical transformations experts, of innovative companies, as well as a broad social programme.

In all the application fields of artificial intelligence, such as boots, virtual advisors, simulators, etc., one should contemplate from the design stage, not only the legal compliance in terms of data protection and security, but also important requirements of ethical nature. Ignoring this consideration, would favor the possible misuse of information, or the manipulation of responses, actions or recommendations provided by these platforms. Technology professionals are at crossroads, since they are responsible for the construction and deployment of these systems, and playing a key role in safeguarding ethical values before these products or services reach the market. Conference participants analysed different approaches to address this challenge of major importance.

This year Conference CRUE-TIC also included some new features. On the one hand the organisation of participatory workshops aimed at solving concrete challenges; on the other hand, the possibility of knowing first-hand business initiatives developed in technology-based start-ups with application in the university environment.
