Jon Ortiz de Urbina holds an English Philology degree from the University of Deusto, as well as an M.A. in Spanish Linguistics from UC Boulder and a Ph.D. in Linguistics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.At present, he is a Professor at the University of Deusto, where he teaches in the Bilbao campus. His teaching concentrates in the degrees of Modern Languages, Modern Languages and Management and the double degree Basque Language and Culture and English Studies. He is in charge of the subjects English Grammar and Spanish Grammar.His research deals with linguistics, especially syntax and linguistic typology, with a special interest in Basque. He is currently working on linguistic microvariation and on Basque dialectal grammar. Up to 2012, he has been a member of the HiTT consolidated research group, formed by researchers from the UPV-EHU, Deusto, CNRS, Univ. of Nantes, Univ. of Leyden and Univ. of Extremadura. From 2013, he has been a member of the Basque Studies research team at the University of Deusto.
