The DIRS-COFUND project is based on the need to develop the profiles of researchers capable of leading high-quality research projects not only in the academic context, which has been the traditional outlet for PhDs, but also in public and private institutions in which knowledge and innovation are key factors for success.

The project and doctoral programmes’ orientation and responsiveness to societal needs and challenges have resulted in well-established partnerships with several companies and institutions willing to co-fund research projects carried out by integrating the cultural, productive and social spectrum, through an interdisciplinary approach from the four research foci.

The wide set of academic and non-academic partner institutions participating in the project will provide hosting and secondment opportunities and training in research and T-shaped skills.
