Supported and co-funded by the European Commission through the Horizon 2020 Marie Skłodowska-Curie COFUND Action and together with 42 partners, the DIRS project aims at attracting qualified international Early Stage Researchers for three years high quality PhD training.
The aim of the training programme is to increase the international, intersectoral and interdisciplinary mobility of researchers, in line with the principles set out in the European Charter for Researchers, the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers and with the EU Principles for Innovative Doctoral Training.
Thanks to DIRS, 16 DIRS-COFUND researchers have joined an attractive and highly internationalised, interdisciplinary and intersectoral research and training ecosystem that encourages and enables cooperation, co-creation and collegiality. This ecosystem encompasses 7 doctoral programmes and 24 research units around four research foci aligned with the challenges identified by the European Union and the Basque Smart Specialisation Strategies:
- Health and Wellbeing
- Human Rights, Peace and Conflict Resolution
- Sustainable Development and Innovation
- Lifelong Learning
Besides the transnational and cross-sectoral mobility opportunities, the wide set of academic and non-academic partner institutions participating in the project offer hosting and secondment opportunities and training in research and T-shaped skills.
The DIRS project started in January 2016 and finishes in December 2020. As of October 2019 it is running together with the 6I-DIRS project, the second COFUND Doctorate Programme awarded by the European Commission to the University of Deusto.
