Master’s Final Project

The Master’s Final Project (MFP) intends to…

  • Foster organisation and use of the content studied throughout the programme, with an in-depth focus on a specific area or subject.

The MFP requires that students complete an individual project in which they apply their technical-practical knowledge. It calls for an original approach and creativity as they develop and organise the content and competences acquired.

The MFP may be a theoretical, empirical or applied research project on a specific thematic area. It is advisable that the MFP be closely linked to the internship completed during the Master's programme (develop an internship project; existing projects in the organisation, association, centre... where the student intern works…).

This project should be carried out at the same time as the Practicum. This helps to organise the aspects studied by applying them and opens up a wide range of possible thematic areas while encouraging students to raise pertinent questions and learn how to solve them.
 

Credits and thematic areas of the MFP

The MFP carries 6 ECTS credits (150 hours of work for the student). Students do these projects individually under the supervision of a tutor assigned by the Director of the Masters' programme.

Each student selects a thematic area for their MFP and submits their project to the Academic Directors for approval. Students are required to have completed at least 24 ECTS credits the first semester and to have enrolled for the remaining ECTS credits envisaged in the programme.
 

Tutorials and assessment of the MFP

The Academic Directors assign each student a tutor, according to the thematic area chosen for their MFP.

Students have the right and obligation to attend the tutorials set by the tutor until their projects have been completed. The dates and times for these tutorials will be arranged between the student and MFP tutor.

The main objective of the tutorials is to orient students during their work on the MFP. Special emphasis is placed on:

  • Selecting a theme.
  • Planning the tasks and calendar.
  • Selecting and obtaining information.
  • Analysis and interpretation of data.
  • Writing out the final report.
     

The MFP is assessed according to the marking system which is normally used: Fail, Pass (5-6), Notable (7-8), Outstanding (9-10), Distinction (10).

The examining board will offer recommendations to students who receive a fail mark. In these cases, students are entitled to re-submit their MFP in the resit exam session in September.

Students must defend their MFP before an examining board formed by three lecturers from the Masters' programme. The MFP supervisor-tutor is not allowed to sit on the examining board. This board decides 70% of the total mark for the MFP, based on the written work submitted and the oral defence.

Prior approval from the MFP supervisor-tutor is required to submit the project, in the first exam session (July) as well as the resit exams (September).

The Director of the Master’s programme issues a report which includes his/her assessment of the learning outcomes. This report accounts for 30% of the total mark.
