Competitiveness and Innovation

Introduction

Students' opinion

Raquel Rebolledo (Perú)

I decided to study a Masters in Competitiveness an Innovation at Deusto Business School because its program is a mixture between two different yet closely related perspectives of competitiveness, within the firm and in the territory. This program’s unique approach has allowed me to have a much better holistic understanding of the interrelations between these two levels and the concepts of innovation and competitiveness.

Moreover, I was eager to learn more about the experience of the Basque Country and other European regions in boosting territorial competitiveness through the implementation of sustainable policies and strategies based on the public and private sectors’ partnership and understanding competitiveness as a medium to the final purpose of generating citizens’ wellbeing in the region.

In addition, having been granted the Orkestra’s scholarship, has allowed me to follow the research itinerary as well as develop an internship in Orkestra, the Basque Institute of Competitiveness during the second semester of the master. Through such unique experience, I’ve been able to broaden my knowledge and expertise in territorial competitiveness.

Finally, since I majored in business administration and had working experience in the private and public sector in my country, I strongly believe I have made the right decision to course this Master because I’m able now to fulfill any key position related to these topics in an organization in the public sector, multilateral organization or consultancy to keep growing professionally.

"I chose MUCI because I wanted to be part of this new programme. I had the certainty that it will make me a better professional and will challenge me to develop unique aptitudes in the field of competitiveness and innovation, skills with a high demand in our changing environment.

First of all, I have received from the very beginning the support of the staff in order to be prepared to start the programme. We met great teachers with comprehensive visions and experience, and I think this is the best way to learn - from experienced people. And finally, it is a very actual programme, which gives a student the opportunity to see the world from a different perspective - the strategic one.

MUCI is a very intensive programme with a complex methodology. The emphasis is on learning by doing and group projects and in my case, these methods were the most important to develop fundamental skills of innovation and competitiveness of both, organizations and territories.

MUCI offers several options of internship and also support from the career department in order to find new opportunities that fit better with our interests and background. I am sure that with MUCI my employment opportunities will grow. I will have the chance to access new functions and to fulfil new roles, to be in pace with the fast developing environment nowadays, and for me this means to overcome the limits. In few words, I feel more confident about the future."

"I choose MUCI program, because I was looking for particular program which will be quite different from my Bachelor background which is tourism.

Another reason is program's intensity and coverage of the Internship.

Most of the courses taught are high valuable in terms of the Professors' experience in particular field. The other interesting fact is that most of the courses are practical, and ability to learn from entrepreneurs."

"I chose MUCI because I found it to be one of the most interesting Master’s programmes and different from what I have been studying before in terms of the knowledge and experience you gain. It has helped me to see business from another point of view, more creative.

In MUCI you have the possibility to meet different people (professors and students) with various backgrounds and personalities and to share knowledge and experience. All this helps you to improve yourself as a student and of course as a human being."

"I chose this program because it's unique, there is no programme like this in middle East. There is a growing demand of professionals and researchers in the field of competitiveness and innovation; I'd like to be one of them.

I like the syllabus, case studies and oral presentations. Having different professors for every course is enriching, we can learn a lot of things, and everyone has his own experience.

I think when I come back home I will recommend my Faculty to implement many thing I have noticed in deusto : Methodology, Content … etc. I have learnt many things that enable me to work in big company, I can use the knowledge I have learnt here to improve the competitiveness of the company."
