The recommended admission profile for this Master’s programme are candidates holding university degrees or diplomas in fields related to Gerontology, such as the following:

The following will be highly valued:
- General first cycle competences.
- Specific competences related to a field of knowledge, discipline or profession in Social Sciences or Health.
- Engagement with social change, the promotion of justice and well-being of the general population and disadvantaged groups.
- Capacity for interpersonal relationships, willingness to work in a team and personal maturity.
- Knowledge of English (particularly reading skills).
Graduates of the Master’s degree in Gerontology (official Spanish diploma) have a profile which meets the requirements to work competently in their professional field. They are equipped to carry out evaluation and diagnosis, and design and implementation of high quality ethical interventions with the elderly and their families, both in terms of community (elderly people who still enjoy a good level of personal autonomy) and institutions (elderly dependents). This approach is based on a biopsychosocial model.
These practitioners have a multidisciplinary focus which enables them to work in social and healthcare services (nursing homes and day-care centres), health and medical services (dementia or end of life care service units), public organisations, social services companies, social centres for the elderly, training centres for adults and seniors, remote assistance for the elderly, leisure and recreation, rehabilitation centres and memory clinics, among others.
In addition to the entry requirements established in the current legislation, admission criteria include:
1. To be admitted to the Master’s programme, candidates must receive a favourable assessment. This assessment will take into account the following:
o Academic transcript
o Previous field of Bachelor’s degree study related to the Master’s programme.
o Previous field of postgraduate or continuing education study related to the Master’s.
o Prior professional and voluntary experience
o Curriculum vitae
o Knowledge of other languages, mainly English.
o Oral and written communication skills.
o Motivation to undertake the programme, professional aims, attitudes and values related to the professional career concerned, capacity for teamwork and personal maturity.
2. Ensure that they have sufficient time and adequate financial resources to undertake the programme.
The Board’s decision-making procedure is two-fold:
o Assessment of the documents submitted by candidates in support of their application:
- Duly completed application form
- Official academic transcript of the entry qualifications to the master’s
- Full Curriculum Vitae with supporting documentation.
- A personal statement.
o A personal interview where the following aspects will be assessed:
- Motivation to study at Master’s level.
- Professional aims
- Attitudes and values relevant to the programme of study.
- A capacity for teamwork.
- Personal maturity
