A double degree programme
This programme aims to ensure graduates meet the legal requirements to practise psychology in the health sector by obtaining the Master’s Degree in General Health Psychology while they also specialise in Neuropsychology, which is a growing field within the world of Psychology.
These graduates therefore have the following career prospects:
1 - Work as psychologists in the health sector:
- Private practice
- Medical examination centres
- Rehabilitation centres
- Patient associations
These qualifications are required to open a Psychology centre.
2 - Practise in the field of Neuropsychology.
Professional practice of Clinical Neuropsychology requires specialist postgraduate training. It is clear that nowadays there is lack of specialist training as such at the national level.
Nevertheless, Clinical Neuropsychology has developed to such an extent in our country that nowadays the demand for professionals in the field is constantly increasing.
The University of Deusto’s broad experience in both fields
Students on this programme will benefit from the many years of teaching and research experience that the Faculty of Psychology and Education has in the health field. In addition, students will also be able to benefit from an R&D&I Psychology and Health Unit, which entails working with internationally well-known research teams.
The University of Deusto has demonstrated its commitment to training experts in Neuropsychology since the early 1990s. The degree in Psychology was first offered in 1999 and included a specialist track with 9 subjects directly related to this field, and which quickly became highly demanded by students.
The Master’s Degree in Mental Health and Psychological Therapies - replaced in 2014/15 by the Master’s degree in General Health Psychology, (official Spanish diploma) - offered specific training in Neuropsychology which included theory and practical modules taught by experts in the field.
Furthermore, Between the 2010/11 and 2014/15 academic years, the University of Deusto offered specific training in the Neuropsychology field through the Expert Diploma in Neuropsychology.
The University of Deusto has delivered this Master’s in Clinical Neuropsychology since the 2015/16 academic year (once it obtained the curriculum verification from the Council of Universities and a previous positive report from the National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation. It was also declared official by Agreement of the Council of Ministers of 17 April, 2015, published by Resolution of the Secretary of State for Universities of 22, in the Spanish Official Gazette (BOE) of 7 May).
