A sustainable design process involves thinking, at each phase, what we can optimise or change to pollute less, reduce energy or resource costs, or plan how the product we are creating can be reused or recycled in case of breakage or wear. The aim is, in short, to reduce our ecological footprint.
It is increasingly important to understand the current environmental legislation and the Sustainable Development issues to be applied that may affect the environmental impact of our industrial products and services. Furthermore, the Integrated Product Policy and the Circular Economy, the normative and regulatory instruments for the environmental improvement of products and services should also be considered.
It is essential to know how to perform an exhaustive Life Cycle Assessment to assess the current environmental impact. Hence, this course will help students to perform a quantitative exam to then improve the product/service regarding environmental aspects and apply the current regulations.
