Overview

The entry into force in October 2011 of Law 34/2006 and the Regulations contained in it (Royal Decree 775/2011) meant a radical change in the routes to qualify as a lawyer, and requires graduates interested in practising as a lawyer to do a Master’s degree worth 90 ECTS and then pass an official exam.
In compliance with these regulations, the Master’s in Law and Legal Practice has been jointly designed by the University of Deusto and the Biscay Bar Association to provide students with qualified professional training leading to obtaining a degree in Law.

Without prejudice to the compulsory nature of this postgraduate degree, in our case, this project is another step in the long journey that both institutions undertook more than three decades ago, based on the firm belief that even it is was not a legally enforceable requirement then, providing adequate legal training results in the quality of the service provided by these practitioners and, ultimately, in the effective judicial protection guaranteed by the Constitution.

The Master’s in Tax Consultancy is taught jointly with the Spanish Association of Tax Consultants. This collaboration results in the quality of teaching of future tax consultants trained at Deusto.
The Master’s degree in Tax Consultancy offers you the opportunity to join today’s increasingly complex job market. In this sense, the programme fully meets students’ expectations, as it allows access to the world of work through internships.

Recognition of credits

The University of Deusto and particularly our Faculty of Law, offers students the possibility of doing the Master’s in Law and Legal Practice jointly with the Master’s in Business Law through the credit recognition system.
15 ECTS credits out of the total 150 ECTS credits of both master’s courses are automatically recognised.

This credit recognition will allow you to obtain two master’s degrees in two academic years: Law and Legal Practice + Tax Consultancy.

Strengths

-The result of joint work
The cooperation between the University of Deusto and the Pedro Ibarreche Legal Practice School of the Biscay Bar Association provides students with the experience of the Bar Association’s practising members and Deusto’s long-standing tradition in education.
Therefore, you will have at your fingertips:

  • The assurance of knowing the best alternative for action.
  • Learning a systematic process
  • Access to responsible appropriate decisions.

-Professional success in the tax field
This specialist Master’s degree programme includes a comprehensive analysis of the tax system at a national and regional level. It fosters contact with the world of work, through internships in tax offices and consultancies.
The coordinated comprehensive curriculum covers regional and national regulations.
A quality control system makes it possible to collect feedback about the programme from all the players involved: students, academic staff, administrative and services staff.
Information is analysed from a broad perspective, making it possible to carry a systemic assessment of the teaching/learning process. This methodology ensures that any deviation from the accepted standards is quickly detected and steps for improvement are implemented.

-Fully taught in Basque
You will also have the possibility of studying all the subjects on the Master’s in Law and Legal Practice fully in Basque.

-Professional immersion
Teamwork and projects in small groups will give you an idea of what the profession is like. The degree has been designed to meet the challenges of today’s rapidly changing panorama. Therefore, the internships focus on meeting these new demands.
Agreements between the Biscay Bar Association and the University of Deusto with leading companies and all types of law firms make it possible to offer internships in the tax field.
