Competences

Graduates in both master's degrees:

  • Have advanced knowledge
  • Are able to adapt to new environments.
  • Show original approaches in creating and applying ideas.
  • Show decision-making capacity, even when dealing with new contexts.
  • Are capable of controlling complex situations.

According to Royal Decree 775/2011 of 3 June, which approves the Regulations under Law 34/2006 of 30 October, on entry to the professions of lawyer and court solicitor in its Article 10, the competences of the training courses for access to the legal profession are: 

  • Develop new work methodologies
  • Reflect on ethical responsibilities
  • Be equipped to choose the most suitable scientific theory and methodology.
  • Be prepared to convey conclusions to all types of audiences.
  • Be trained to continue with independent study.
  • Be prepared to take part in research projects.

And be capable of understanding the theoretical and practical network in specialist scientific research 

  • Critical Thinking
  • Sound arguments for the judgements issued
  • Responsible effective decision-making in complex situations.
  • Follow processes systematically with self-confidence and initiative.

Field of knowledge 

  • Use the knowledge acquired in the degree programme and adapt it to situations
  • Know the changes in laws, policy and jurisprudence
  • Identify the substantive aspects of each particular case

Selection of the proper proceedings 

  • Choice of the best legal proceedings
  • Detection of conflicts of interest

Context control and new technologies 

  • Identify the requirements involved in organising and offering legal advice.
  • Knowledge of the conditions required to access and practise the legal profession in Spain and Europe.

Professionalism and teamwork 

  • Maintain a strict professional tone at all times
  • Use respectful language adapted to the specific situation.

Selection of the proper proceedings 

  • A good working knowledge of the most appropriate problem solving techniques.
  • Knowledge of professional secrecy and the principles of freedom and independence.

Negotiation and client relationships. Students will be required to:  

  • Know and defend clients’ rights in the framework of Spanish and international jurisdictional protection systems.
  • Know the different techniques to determine the interests involved.
  • Find solutions to problems through alternative methods to legal proceedings.
  • Use negotiation techniques, tactics and strategies to handle any type of legal matter.
  • Bear in mind ethical rights and responsibilities.
  • Ability to communicate with colleagues, customers, in courts of justice and with other legal operators.
  • Examine the most usual cases in which lawyers may incur civil and criminal liability.
  • Using the procedures and resources laid down in the legal system, choose the right strategy to defend customers’ rights.
  • Organise and plan individual and collective resources available to practise law.
  • Explain the operation of duty lawyer services.

Context control and new technologies 

  • Know how to apply in practice the organisational, management and commercial aspects of the profession of lawyer.
  • Know the partnership legal, tax, labour and personal and customer data protection framework.
  • Improve the team’s efficiency through access to information sources, languages, knowledge management and applied tools.
  • Use new technologies

Professionalism and teamwork 

  • Develop specific and interprofessional team working.
  • Meet the required deadlines
  • Be unbiased: Takes into account different views.
  • Have interpersonal skills
  • Respect the content and form of colleagues’ opinions.

  • Identify applicable tax sources
  • Take relevant legal decisions
  • Write out documents for the Tax Administration Office
  • Monitor different tax proceedings
  • Apply basic professional ethics
  • Use specific tax computer programmes
  • Make correct use of technical terms
  • Write out accounting documents in compliance with the applicable regulations.
  • Identify principles and legal regulations for taxes
  • Design alternative strategies leading to lower tax rates within the legal framework and controlled tax risks.
  • Critically assess tax regulations and, when applicable, carry out corrections concerning their interpretation and legal reform.
