On 12 and 13 June 2017 the University of Deusto participated in the European conference “Impact of Science 2017” organised by the AESIS Network (Advancing & Evaluating the Societal Impact of Science) in Stockholm. The aim of the event was to debate on the most important current issues in science policy: how “social impact” and “scientific excellence” relate to each other.
250 participants shared and discussed worldwide instruments which have proven to be effective to stimulate both the quality and the societal impact of science. The conference was a great opportunity to learn about successful initiatives and methods implemented in the participating international universities, research institutes, enterprises and public authorities.
The Stockholm conference will be followed by another major international event entitled “Boosting Impact of Social Sciences and Humanities”. The event will take place in Cardiff on 20 and 21 September 2017 to discuss how social sciences and humanities can address societal challenges and optimise societal well-being. Deusto will have a speaking slot in the session “Achieving Impact on Different Levels” with a presentation on “Local and Regional Impact Strategy and Intersectoral Collaboration”.
