Social Impact

Towards fairer and more diverse societies

At the University of Deusto we understand social impact research as that which contributes to transformation processes leading to fairer and more diverse societies, where inclusive social development and welfare are enhanced. Thus, research at Deusto should pursue an impact beyond academia focusing on the transformation of today’s society.

Within the Deusto 2018 Strategic Project, the "Social Impact of Research" Master Plan sets out key actions for the promotion and dissemination of research at Deusto.

The plan is structured around three objectives:

  • Formulation and measurement of the social impact of the university’s research projects since universities, in addition to measuring the rates of academic impact, must also give account of the social impact of the research they perform.
  • Development of actions to support research projects with high social impact. The aim of these initiatives is to show the transforming action of Deusto’s research.
  • Improved external dissemination of the social impact of Deusto’s research. A number of studies, courses and actions have been carried out to support projects that link Deusto to social partners; research awards and grants should also incorporate the social impact dimension. In June, a joint statement was made between Deusto, Confebask and the Deputy Ministry of Universities and Research of the Basque Government to promote the Social Impact of University Research.
